Taught by Juanita Wyatt in Fall of 2024
Oil on canvas, 16 x 24, Fall 2024
This assignment was meant to teach us to work through the trials and tribulations of working with a live subject that dies overtime. This piece plays with composition through the folds of the tablecloth and the variation in the flowers and stems. I learned a lot from this painting. For example, I was challenged to play with composition and to 'zoom in' to my subject rather than draw my subject with the entire tabletop as I tend to do. I enjoyed working with the lillies and I see this painting as a testament to using still-life to practice other skills.

This assignment was to paint a landscape with a monochromatic color scheme. I chose viridian green for this piece because I thought it would complement the serenity of the ocean well. I used this photo because I wanted to create a piece to commemorate the time I stayed on this boat for three weeks on a sailing and SCUBA diving trip. This painting, for me, is a reminder that I can incorporate my passion for ocean conservation and SCUBA into my artwork and hopefully entwine the two as my work develops.
