Tie wire, variable dimensions, Fall 2024
The technical objective of this assignment was to create a compelling sculpture using tie wire. My original plan was to make a mermaid, but found the simplicity of these pieces intriguing and chose to leave it. This piece depicts three minimalistic forms in different poses. Each of the three forms depicts a different emotion that altogether symbolizes a sort of metamorphosis from resignment, to deconstruction, and finally, freedom and hope for the future. This piece utilizes line, form, and balance to achieve this.
Cardboard and red hot glue, 16 x 12, Fall 2024
the objective of this piece was to do a master copy of a 2D artwork in a 3D form using cardboard. I chose 'Judith Beheading Holofernes' by Artemisia Gentilleschi. I ripped cardboard apart to get the 'fabric' and to expose the corrugation to add texture. I chose to recreate this piece due to its cultural impact and the fact that Artemisia is one of few Baroque period female artists that hasn't had her work destroyed. This depiction of feminine rage is also important, as it is the only depiction to my knowledge of Judith being in total control of the decapitation.
